Coverage of all major sports in Utah and a little more.

Writer Bios

I am an aspiring journalism major at BYU.  My dream job would be an ESPN sports analyst but more realistically, I’d like to be a play-by-play announcer for college football games.  I was born and raised an avid college football fan.  I root for the BYU Cougars, Philadelphia Eagles, Utah Jazz, Real Salt Lake and the Atlanta Braves.  My first sports memory is from when BYU beat Utah in 1998 where Ryan Kaneshiro doinked his FG kick off the goal post.  My favorite thing to do when watching sports is to analyze plays and team strategies as well as gather stats.  Some call me a sports nerd.  Feel free to follow me on Twitter @Cougazul to discuss all things college football.

I am a young sports fan from Conifer, CO; a small town near the outskirts of the Denver area. I had the fortune of moving into the Denver area at the tender age of 7, and was witness to one of the greatest quarterbacks the NFL has seen on one of the leagues greatest teams. 1997 was the beginning of my attachment to sports, and it has only gotten worse since then. I got to grow up with the Colorado Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup, the Broncos winning the Super Bowl, the Nuggets winning 11 games but starting Dikembe Mutombo, and the Blake Street Bombers beginning to play baseball in the Mile High City. I had a good childhood.

I was accepted to Brigham Young University during my senior year of high school, and graduated in 2006. Loved my freshman year at the Y, where I fell in love with BYU basketball and football thanks to John Beck, Johnny Harline, and Jonathon Tavernari. After serving a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Oklahoma City, I began to switch my football allegiance to the University of Oklahoma. After returning to school, I was accepted into the media journalism program at BYU with an emphasis in online and print journalism. I am planning on going into sports journalism with a focus on either college or professional basketball.

I have a lot of interests, but they mainly revolve around sports. I drive a sweet purple Pontiac, wear glasses, and proudly sport my Colorado Rockies hat while living in the baseball deprived state of Utah (sorry Bees). I’m a big fan of the mountains, don’t enjoy swimming, and miss being able to ride my bike. My life is heavily influenced by the classic music of Carlos Santana, Sting, Journey, Boston, the Doobie Brothers, and Coldplay. I have two heroes, my father and Cal Ripken, who my younger brother is named after. I’ll close by expressing my belief that the Chicago Cubs will never win a World Series during my lifetime, which will likely extend their streak of ineptitude to over 160 years.

My whole life I’ve been a music and sports nut. I’ve been involved with them both since I was a toddler. Injuries have kept me unable to play very often so I decided to use my writing skills that I’ve used musically, and be a sports writer as well.

I’m currently studying Journalism and Mass Communication at Ashford University, using their online program. I’m scheduled to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in March of 2015. By that time I expect to either have a music career, or pursue sports journalism with the music on the side.

I follow the NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA Football and NCAA Basketball with much interest. I’m not just a fan, I enjoy following every aspect of those games. You could call me a casual NHL and NCAA Baseball fan as well. My favorite teams are the BYU Cougars, Utah Jazz, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco 49ers and the Phoenix Coyotes. I’m also an avid participator in fantasy sports.

I started my own sports blog around April of 2010 and realized I should’ve started much earlier than that. I enjoy it very much and am glad to be a part of the TornBySports crew.

You can find my sports opinions on twitter @CheshSports. If you’re interested in my music check out my website www.jimmiechesh.com and on twitter @JimmieChesh.

I am an avid sports fan and have been my entire life. My parents and older siblings all were indifferent about sports, so I fell in love all on my own; sports are just a part of me. I’ve been married a little over a year and we have a son on the way. I’ve been in Utah County my whole life and consequently am a BYU fan. My favorite way to have fun and let off some stress is golfing. I go whenever I can afford it, get super angry at least once a hole, and I dream of playing at St Andrews. I love history, literature, and art. Besides being a sports writer, my dream job would be teaching Renissaince art history to people who actually care about it. I’m very opinionated– mostly with sports and politics– and will argue with anyone that will argue back as hard as I do. I love TornBySports and I love writing about Utah sports!
I am a 23 year old college student attending Brigham Young University.  I am majoring in History Teaching and working on a minor in Coaching, however, I plan to go to Physical Therapy school some where. I have been married to my wife Brittny for almost a year and have a newborn son named Titus. I watch any sport that I have time for and enjoy listening to several different sports podcast. My favorite would have to be Pardon The Interruption. I prefer most college sports over professional sports because I feel that college athletes play with heart and rivalries seem to be more intense and  full of tradition. I played football and wrestled in high school and have been an assistant wrestling coaching for the past two seasons.
I became a sports fan probably in about 3rd grade after my family moved to St. George, Utah. Honestly, before then I’m not even really sure I knew what sports were. I do remember watching the Lakers play at my grandparents in California with my cousins, but I don’t remember it catching my attention for too long.

Once settled in St. George, I became a huge Jazz fan. Then I cheered for any college team in the state, yes both the Utes and Cougars. My mom was going to Dixie College at the time and would take my siblings and I to lots of those sporting events. My favorite sports are: basketball, soccer, baseball, and football (the rest I don’t follow very much).

My love for the Jazz has never wavered since it started. When my husband and I got married in 2006 we bought season tickets and have had them ever since. I love the Jazz and going to the games.

I developed my love for the University of Utah after my husband started attending the U in fall 2007. My love of the UofU even took my husband and I to the Sugar Bowl in January 2009. So far football and gymnastics are the only sporting events I’ve been to at the U.

I also enjoy going to SL Bees game and Real Salt Lake games.

Now I write and content edit for www.tornbysports.com. I’m also a stay at home mom to a 1 year old. Before becoming a mom, I was a 3rd grade teacher.

I have been a sports fan all of my life. I openly cheer for the Chicago Bulls, Utah Jazz, Real Salt Lake, Virginia Tech and the Utah Utes. With a Dad from Illinois, a youth spent in Virginia, and a college degree from the University of Utah you may be able to make some sense of where my sport loyalties lie.

With a love of sports and a desire to get my opinion out there I started TornBySports.com with my brother in January of 2010. I continue to do a lot of the behind the scenes work for the website and plan to begin writing for the site much more come January 2011. I avidly follow the NBA and college football & basketball.
