Utah Utes vs Northern Colorado

Grant Bagby 08/28/2012

Welcome to the Utah Utes edition of Picks of the Week. In the article below you will find what some of our writers expect to see this week in the Utah game. Please tell us what you are expecting in the comments section below.

Robby: This game will be stagnant at first with Utah only up by a touchdown or two at the half. Utah will pull away in the second half and get the comfortable win. I think Star will make huge defensive plays for the Utes and will be the player of the game.

Chesh: This is a solid opportunity for 25 year old, first year offensive coordinator Brian Johnson to get the feel of how he wants things to run. And I mean that literally. John White is arguably the best running back in the Pac-12 and look for him to have a huge night. The passing game is in question however. Jordan Wynn missed some time in fall camp due to a tired and sore arm. If he makes mistakes, or simply can’t throw the ball in this season opener, I don’t expect that to hamper the game at all for the Utes. Against this defense, I doubt Northern Colorado scores very much. If at all. Utes win 30-6.

Andrew: I am not even going to grace this with a game predicition, so let’s just get to things to watch for.

We can’t really use this game to judge how well we can run or play defense. I am pretty sure Alta High could put up a good fight on these guys. There is one thing, however, that we CAN judge in this game: Jordan Wynn’s arm. Everyone and their dog is going to want to see what kind of velocity Jordan Wynn can put on the ball. Will he still rely on check-downs and flat routes? Or will he fire down field with confidence? This is what I want to see the most.
