Real Salt Lake traded their first round pick to Chivas USA for Allocation money that will help relieve some of the Salary Cap for the team to resign some of their players to longer deals. RSL then used the 52nd overall pick to select Portland Pilots senior Jarad vanSchaik. This all took place on Thursday at the Baltimore Convention Center. vanSchaik, is a midfielder from Tualatin, Ore., and will join the team in Salt Lake City, sometime next week.
A little about Jarad vanSchaik – As a Junior and Senior he was named to the First Team All-WCC. Jarad started every match he played in his Junior and Senior year and in those 2 years scored 14 goals and accumulated 11 assists. He played an attacking midfield position his last two years for the Pilots.
“He’s a 6-foot-1, left-footed player,” Kreis said. “Truthfully we haven’t seen the kid play a whole lot, but he has some attributes that we find intriguing. We’ll be looking at him as a candidate to play left back for us.”

On a side note RSL Collen Warner and vanSchaik played together at Portland University. Hopefully that familiarity can turn into something good for the future. Only time will tell.
