Proud Utah Football Fan

I am not a Utah man, but I’m a female Utah fan.  The Running Ute football team had a record setting 6 players drafted in the NFL draft this past week.  The school record was previously 5.

Linebacker, Koa Misi was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 2nd round.  He will be joining Reciever, Sean Smith (Dancing King/Sugar Bowl teammate) and Defensive End, Paul Soliai both from Utah.

Offensive Lineman Zane Beadles was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 2nd round as well.

In the fifth round Defensive Back Robert Johnson was selected by the Tennessee Titans.

Also in the fifth round Receiver, David Reed was selected by the Baltimore Ravens and will join Sugar Bowl teammate, Paul Kruger and former Ute, Kelly Talavou. The Ravens are fans of players out of Utah schools.  The Ravens also drafted Dennis Pitta and already have former Cougar John Beck.

One of my favorite players, Stevenson Sylvester, Linebacker, was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He will be joining Chris Kemoeatu as well as two former Cougars.

Finally the last Ute of the draft was selected in the seventh round by the Carolina Panthers.  He’s known for his speed and his name is RJ Stanford.  He will be joining former Utes Jordan Gross and Steve Smith.

Good luck to all the Utes drafted.  I hope you make the team and do well in the NFL.  Each teams NFL odds will increase their chances to make it to the playoffs because YOU are on their team!  Go Utes!  Make me proud!

I became a sports fan probably in about 3rd grade after my family moved to St. George, Utah. Honestly before then I'm not even really sure I knew what they were. I do remember watching the Lakers play at my grandparents in California with my cousins, but I don't remember it catching my attention for too long.

Once settled in St. George, I became a huge Jazz fan. Then I cheered for any college team in the state, yes both the Utes and Cougars. My mom was going to Dixie College at the time and would take my siblings and I to lots of those sporting events. My favorite sports in order are: basketball, soccer, football, baseball, and the rest I don't follow very much.

My love for the Jazz has never wavered since it started. When my husband and I got married in 2006 we bought season tickets and had them until 2013. I love the Jazz and going to the games.

I developed my love for the University of Utah after my husband started attending the U in fall 2007. My love of the UofU even took my husband and I to the Sugar Bowl in January 2009. So far football and gymnastics are the only sporting events I've been to at the U.

I also enjoy going to SL Bees game and Real Salt Lake games.

I occasionally write and content edit for www.tornbysports.com. I'm a stay at home mom to a 4 year old boy and baby 1 year old girl. Before becoming a mom, I was a 3rd grade teacher.

  • Me too, i love to be fan of Utah football.
