As weird as it sounds, one of my all-time favorite things to do is mock draft. Growing up, while other kids were dreaming of becoming astronauts and pro athletes, I was fantasizing about taking over for Mel Kiper. For time’s sake, I’ll just post my 1st round mock draft, along with where I think former Aggies will be taken. One caveat before posting: draft day trades always happen and throw everything off kilter. So try not to rush to judgment when I’m way off.

Aggie Draft Picks
- 2nd Round – 51 – Eagles – Bobby Wagner – LB
- 4th Round – 108 – Broncos – Robert Turbin – RB
Aggie UFA Signings
- Raiders – Michael Smith – RB
- Ravens – Tarren Lloyd – TE
A few thoughts about the potential former Aggie draft picks:
The Eagles will get someone from BYU, Utah, or Utah State. I think it’s structured in Andy Reid’s contract. My money’s on Reid and company taking Wagner in the 2nd round. The Eagles linebackers coach, Mike Caldwell, made the trek to Logan to watch Bobby show off his ridiculous speed and athleticism. Caldwell had to be impressed with what he saw.
It’s been communicated that Turbin recently visited the Denver Broncos. I’m sure he visited many more teams, but Robert would seemingly fit in nicely with Manning and the Bronco offense. Turbin can catch the ball out of the backfield and would help a backfield starring an aging Willis McGahee and oft-injured Knowshon Moreno.
If Al Davis were still alive, I could almost guarantee the Raiders would draft Michael Smith. Davis had a penchant for drafting speed, and Smith is arguably the fastest running back in this year’s draft class. I don’t believe Michael will be drafted, but will be a priority free agent. Maybe the Raiders have a little Davis left in them and pick up Smith after Mr. Irrelevant is named at Radio City Music Hall.
Rumor has it the Ravens are interested in bringing in Lloyd as a free agent in an attempt to groom him into an offensive tackle. Tarren has the height and blocking ability to man the line, but would just need to put on some weight. Making a spot on the practice squad would vastly help his development if he were to make the switch.
