Utah Utes: To Bowl or Not to Bowl

Utah Utes - Travis Wilson

Eight days. Eight days until kick off. When no one will be yelling at the supposed ugly mountain uniforms. Instead everyone will be singing how they are a Utah “fan” sir! This year may even include a bowl game or will it? When I look at a schedule I see the games in three ways: wins, coin flips, losses. With that, let ... Read More »

Utah Utes Football: Depth Chart Offense

untitled

Quarterback: Travis Wilson – This is really no surprise, the starting QB job was Wilson’s to lose even though some may have suggested otherwise. Wilson played well last season (when he was healthy) and his game-time experience is vital to the Utes having success in the PAC 12. I would still like to see some packages installed for backup QB Kendall Thompson ... Read More »

With that, let me say how I see things as they stand now. Then we can get to the end season record, whether Whittingham has a job in Utah, and how basketball will take the main stage in Utah. Wins: Idaho State Fresno State Washington State Colorado Coin Flips Michigan Oregon State Arizona Losses UCLA USC ASU Oregon Stanford Based on the above, when I am in my most positive mood, the Utes could go 7-5. If my kids kept me up all night and I am grouchy, the Utes could go 4-8. Based on the Utes current winning ... Read More »

    NBA Schedule: The Nationally-Televised Teams

With the NBA schedule out, there’s a certain hierarchy between the league and the media, primarily which teams will be nationally televised how often. It helps illuminate how well they think certain teams will do, as well as which franchises are important regardless of their record. ABC has the least amount of games and the higher ratings; therefore the most valuable. TNT would be next, followed by ESPN. NBATV is the bottom of the TV hierarchy. Every team gets at least two nationally-televised games. No team gets more than 6 ABC games, 10 TNT games and 10 ESPN games. I ranked the stations with points, then added up where they fit. Each ABC game is 5 points, 3 for TNT, 2 for ESPN, and 1 for NBATV. If playoff standings were determined by national exposure, this is how the 2014-2015 season would look. I should also note that later in the year, sometimes the NBA will ... Read More »

    Utah in the NFL Draft

Just looking to make the team Trevor Reilly of Utah was selected in the 7th round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. Typically when a franchise chooses a prospect in the 6th or 7th round of the draft they aren’t looking for them to be instant impact players. Organizations choose guys with big numbers. What that means is they are looking for players with particular physical traits at a position or a guy that may have blown them away at the combine or pro days. Reilly at 6’5″ 245 has big numbers in terms of his physical stature. Also at his pro day he ran a 4.66 in the 40, 34″ inch vertical, 9-9″ broad jump and at the combine put up 26 reps in the bench press. That 40 time was only a tenth of a second slower than Khalil Mack who was selected 5th overall by the Oakland Raiders. The fact that he was ... Read More »

  • RSL: From the Stands

Due to a different work schedule, a 2 hour drive, and usually lack of time, I find it tough to make it to Real Salt Lake games. Generally I am glued to a television or computer monitor watching the game and tweeting out my thoughts. I notice where guys are positioned, how guys are reacting, and seeing goals scored in a view smaller than I wished. In year’s past, I have made it to many huge RSL games. The first time I watched RSL live, they were playing the LA Galaxy in Rice Eccles Stadium. My brother is a Galaxy fan and this was the first time David Beckham would be playing in Salt Lake. Unlucky for him, Beckham didn’t play that game due to injury. The next game I was able to go to, RSL played the Kansas City Wizards (as they were known at the time) early in the 2009 season. RSL lost the ... Read More »
